Intermediate Development Course

This well rounded introduction into the world of rock climbing turns beginner and indoor climbers into confident intermediate climbers. Learn from our guides how to be a solid climber by building a robust foundation of the movement and technical skills required to become a confident and safe sport climber.

Day to day improvement

Day 1

Recap on your personal knowledge and skill set, cover the finer points of the basic climbing system; this first day focuses on learning to belay, tie in and go climbing!

Day 2

Reinforce previous day’s learning points, the Second day focuses on Lead climbing; how to clip bolts and manage your rope while climbing. We will also introduce how to clean the anchors of a sport climb so that you get your gear back after climbing. All of these skills will be taught to you while climbing so that you can increase your milage and learn movement skills along the way.

Day 3

Day three is primarily about repetition, cementing the skills learnt over the previous days and working out any kinks in the system. We will also go over how to clean the anchor of a sport climb by abseiling to round out your knowledge.

Although it is not compulsory we offer a Lead fall clinic with this course to help people be more comfortable taking and catching lead falls.

We always plan to finish by climbing a few classic Wānaka pitches.
